Aracena, Wednesday 4th May: Cartoon


In this class we read this cartoon and then we doing some activities. The following activities are some of this:

1. Briefly summerize the cartoon strip.
Calvin is trying to explain to Hobbes that the ends justify the means, but not always is correst.

2. Explain the meaning of Hobbes' quote (the tiger) in the second to last drawing.
The tiger push the boy because he's in his way. If the ends justify the means, when the tiger push the boy to the mud it's justify.


3. What's the relationship between the cartoon story and the Golden Rule.

The relationship between these two ideas is this: The Ends Justify the Means have an idea in which whatever happens the end justify the means, but this implies a contradiction with the golden rule. In the golden rule says treat others as you would like them to you. Both ideas are not compatible, so the first is to consider someexceptions.

On this day I  continued doing the following questions:

Questions about Rights and Duties:

9.Why was there not a real democracy in the Medieval Ages?
Because the final decision was taken by the monarch only.


10.Why were the Renaissance Italian Republics not considered real democracies either?
As they had the Roman republic as a modelmuch more restricted than the Athenian democracy as regards the acknowledgement of political rights for citizens.

12.What was "Old Rule"?
The rulers of the pre-democratic states.

Questions about Inalienable Rights.

1.Give at least two examples of an advantage that the nobility and he clergy were given.
Nobility and clergy could not be judge in the same court that judges the commons and even laws, and punishments, were also different.

This day we continue doing the work about philosophers.
I'm going to talk about some of these works:

Their works is about Epicuro. Epicurus was born in Samos in 342 a.C. and was an ancient Greek philosopher and the founder of the school of philosophy called Epicureanism. He studied philosophy for four years under the Platonist teacher Pamphilus. He founded a lot of  schools, like the Garden. And by  he age of 72 years old he died in  Athens in 270 a. C.

Their work is about Plato. Plato was a very famous philosopher. He was born the 7th of May in a rich family: The Glaucon.
His father, Aristrón, descending of Codro, the last king in Greece. His mather, Perictione, descending of Solon and cousin of Critias, sofista of Greece. Plato wrote a very famous sentence: "Only I know just I dont know anything".

5.Why do states that do not have fully democratic goverments sometimes declare that they are "for more democratic" than the really democratic states?
Because there is a broad consensus do out democracy being the fainest form of organisation of political coexistence.

6.What was the first democracy?
It was the power of the people, that is, of citizens in the Greek city of Athens in the last years of the 6th century.

7.Where does the word "democracy" originate?
The first democracy was created in the Greek city of Athens in the last years of the 6th century B.C.

8.What is the difference between a subject and a citizen?
A citizens, that is, free individuals, with the right to take part in political activities. A subject is, unlike a citizen, someone without rights, just with duties

They work about Aristoteles. Aristoteles was born in 384 BC in Estagira, he was a greek philosopher. His father was Nicomano. When his father died he went to Atenas to continue his education. in 335 AC he created his own school: The liceo. He left Atenas and died in Calcis in 332 AC

Second group: Beatriz Blanco

                         Esther Moya

They work about Socrates. Socrate was a Greek Athenian philosopher. He founders oof western philosophy. In 4-3s BC he was a philosopher. His estudents wrote the books about him. He died when he was 70.

                      Maria Manzano

They work about The Stoicism. Stoicism is one of the philosophical movement that, in the Hellenistic period, became more important and dissemination. Was founded by Zeno in 301 a. C., became widespread throughout the Greco-Roman world, enjoying particular popularity among Roman elites. Its period of prominence is the third century C. until the end of the second century C. After that, he gave signs of exhaustion which coincided with the social breakdown of the High Roman Empire and the rise of Christianity

1.What are "excesses of authority"?
It's when someone don't respect the limits of this authorithy.


2.What is the relationship between rights and excesses of authority?
The excesses of authority are based on rights but exceeds.


3.What is "an arbiter"?
Is who makes a decision and has the value of a law and cannot be appealed.


4.Summerize pages 14 and 15.
In modern democratic societies there is no arbitrary power but all authority is subjected to limits established by law.

Aracena Monday March 28: Test

This day we had the test of Gandhi, Antonio our teacher did not come to class, so that made ​​us other teacher.

The test was "voluntary" and consists of the following exercises:
The first was one question with a three possibles answers,  and the second was to surround the right word. ¡Very easy!

Aracena, Wednesday 23rd March: Megan's questions about Golden Rule


In this class Megan we asked the following questions based on The Golden Rule:


-Are there any exceptions to the Golden Rule? (situations in which the rule has no been obeyed...)
-Are there situations when it is rash to obey the Golden Rule?
-Examples of daily situations in which we do obey the Golden Rulen?
-Could we lie and at the same time, obey the Golden Rule?
-If you witnessed someone treating another person badly, how might you convince them to change their ways... using the Golden Rule?

Questions about what is a Rights:
